The famous finnish dancer Dennis Ätä Nylund gives a wonderful performance with a major LGBT twist, on live reality tv! The lady showed clapping in the audience in the end is (allegedly) his girlfriend, so this is just a statement for marriage equality. But it’s an awesome performance and an awesome message. :)

Where the hell are Joe Hart and Sugar Motta in Glee?

I mean, even The Bold and the Beautiful makes a plot about losing a character, even having a character shot and killed and buried, and then later, when they need her back after all, it’s revealed that she was never dead and was magically saved through an underground tunnel from the grave. That’s continuance, right there.

But even that kind of plotting would be too much for Glee, it seems. Glee seems to just strategically “forget” that the characters ever existed at all, and trust that the watchers have suffered the same kind of amnesia…

This is the song for my klaine fic, Kiss me goodbye. It comes out in the epilogue, and can be spoilerish if you haven’t gotten to that point of the story. It’s written and composed by me, for the purposes of this fic only. As you might or might not know, song writing is not actually the thing I’m most skilled at, so this was more just a fun thing to do than an actual good song. ;)

This recording is meant to be just a demonstration of how the song might sound like, so it doesn’t actually sound that great. It’s just me singing, with no instruments or other back up, and I didn’t spend ages to perfect it, so.. just imagine how it would be sung in the story, by the person who sings it. :)

Equality fest

So, 19th of march is the national day of equality in Finland, and in honor of that, the new bill petition for allowing gay marriage opened for signing at midnight. Now, 22 hours later, the petition has been signed by over 2% of all Finns that are entitled to vote. That means over 100 000 names collected in a single day - and these are only the online signings, which means that if all the names collected on the streets were included, the number would be much higher. (The number of names needed for the government to have to take it into account is 50 000 - and they give you six months to collect that. It seems a bit of an overkill, to be honest.)

Finnish government might be struggling with accepting gay marriage, but the people don’t seem to be. It’s pretty awesome to witness!

Okay, all you Finnish peeps, the bill proposal is now up for signing, so please go and do it! It’s been 45 minutes and there are already 1500 names, and it’s pretty awesome but not enough. Please go and add yours, so that maybe everyone will be allowed to get married and be treated the same way! And you non- Finnish citizens who see this, sadly you are not allowed to sign this, but you can spread the info if you want, so that maybe more Finns will see it! ;)

And they started advertising on of those today, and the facebook page of that bill has gotten 24.000 likes in about 12 hours, and more likes are coming approximately one per second.. And mind you, Finland is still a small country with only 5 million people, so it’s a big number. I think, even though the government is still living in another century, the people of Finland want the change, and it’s awesome to watch it happen! I hope the parliament will handle the issue better, when they see how important this issue is for the people who they are supposed to represent. So, if you want to show your support for the Finnish people also getting their equal human rights, you should go and like this:

This was probably the heaviest, most disturbing and also the most powerful music video I’ve seen in a while. It’s about a subject that is hard to think about but also something we should never just forget about: human trafficking. The song is in Finnish, but the story is universal. Watch it with caution, but watch it.

Twilight imprinting is freaky

I mean, everyone is complaining that Edward’s 100 year old devotion for teenage Bella is freaky, but that’s nothing to the werewolves’ imprinting! Just think about it people!

I’m not even saying it’s bad for the werevolves who imprint because they don’t seem to be suffering too much, like, they just love someone very much, even though not having a choice kinda sucks too. But just think about the girls! The guys come to them like “Hi, my name’s X, oh, by the way, I will love you forever till the day I die.” The girl might not even know the guy, or they might be fucking infants, or they might be old friends, but now suddenly this guy just informs you that you are literal centre of the universe for him from now on.

The girl has no choice in the matter, whether the guy loves her or not. There is literally nothing she can do to make the guy fall out of love with her, because she is IT for now on, in a completely other level than normal people desperately in love, because there isn’t going to be anybody else they could ever even consider besides her.There is no way she can get him to resent her, or reason with him so that he could go find something else in his life.

So the girl is left with two options, either to love this guy or at least like him enough to spend time with him, or totally, irreparably break the guy. It’s like the guy says “So, you don’t know me, but you are my world. So here’s the deal, you can either love me or take this knife and blunge it through my heart.” That is a fucking unfair situation!!! There is probably literally nothing worse than a guy you don’t really care about saying that they will die if you don’t take them in.

But, the werewolves say, of course the girl wants to be with the guy, because who could resist such strong love. But you have to understand, that the girl does NOT feel the effects of the imprinting. They can feel that this guy loves them, but it does not affect their own emotions or thinking. Have you ever been in a situation where a guy tells you after one date that they love you? I have, and that was like the most horrible, discusting, awkward and scary thing I’ve ever heard. And he was just being dramatic, but these guys are like for real. It’s really honestly sick.

And, like, it’s not only romantic love in Twilight, they can be whatever the girl needs in their life, right? So it’s not that sick! But the fact remains, that you need to stand this person worshipping the ground you walk on for the rest of your life unless you want to hurt him worse than death (literally what they say in Twilight it feels like to lose the person you have imprinted on).You’d have to stand this person in your life, doing whatever he possibly can to make you feel happy, and that sounds so suffocating, even if I sincerely loved the guy.

And I cannot figure out anything more scary than a person who will never be unable to not love you, no matter what you will say or do. You could, like, kill that guys parents or children and he would still love you because he can’t not. Honestly, twisted. Sick. Horrible.

I’d take Edwards brooding any day. At least he has the theoretical possibility to fall out of love with me and find someone else. Even though, lets face it, Edward’s love for Bella is not really much more healthy than the imprinting when you get down to it.

Gender equality in Finland

I think this is an interesting topic. You could say Finland is such an equal country, that we have gotten so far. And yeah, I guess we have gotten far.

Some history: Finland was the third country in the world to give women rights to vote, on 1906, which was also the time all Finnish men got the right to vote, instead of just a few chosen ones. Finland wasn’t even independent then. Even before, I guess Finnish women have always been more independent than in most places, simply because the severe environment and scarce population has made every single person needed to make life possible. Everyone was needed on the fields and forests, so it was not possible to keep the women as helpless porcelain dolls.

As Finland grew richer and freer, things got better for equality as well. In parliament, the persentage of women got over thirty in 1980. Since then it has slowly grown, and in the current parliament it is 42,5%. We had a female president elected 2000 and re-elected on 2006. We got the first female prime minister 2003. At the last government there were 12 women and 8 men (the prime minister being a man). Most of the parties have or have had a female leader.The first female head of supreme court was named on 2006. About half of the workers for the state all combined are women.

There are laws about enhancing equality. There are special workers in cities and the government, whose main responsibility is to take care of all the equality issues. There is a separate committee in the parliament for this.

Things seem great in many ways and I am proud. But Finland is still in no way completely equal. Still it is harder for women to get certain jobs, still men are given preferential treatment when considering job candidates. Still women get paid less than men for doing the same jobs. Still so few of big leaders of private sector are women. There is still so much wrong in the real society. The numbers can look great but there is a lot of room for improvement and we are nowhere near where we should be.

I don’t know how anyone can think this is enough, that we have already gotten what we want and need. I don’t think anyone should be happy with the situation until it’s 50/50 everywhere, until we all get paid the same, until we are truly equal everywhere, in a way that our gender simply just does not weigh as a factor when considering a person’s ability.

There a long way to go for the whole planet yet. Not a single place can say “relax, we already got this”. We should always be ready to fight and not settle for less.

5 "romantic" things that I hate

Fancy, formal dates. With the guy coming to get me from my home, thus leaving me no way of getting away without his chivalry, driving to a fancy, upper scale restaurant where you have to be scared of the waiters, eating and feeling super awkward about everything and spending half the time scared that you get something on your face or spill your drink on your date. Not to mention the awkwardness when you realise you don’t have anything elegant to talk about and you can’t tell the funny stories, because it would be weird to laugh in that atmosphere. I’d take McDonals over this any day.
Roses. UGH. I can do almost any other kind of flower but roses, I mean, just think about them, can there be anything more overused and unimaginative? What is it with roses and love anyway, they are not even the most beautiful flower out there! And giving them to your loved one in the beginning of a date! Then they are supposed to smell them and then carry them around everywhere until they get home, with the other option of thowing them away and hurting the giver. Cant you figure out anything more special as a gift? And, if you have to do flowers, bring them only when I’m home and pick something even remotely imaginative while at it!
Men opening doors for women. Or women opening doors for me, for that matter. This is romantic as an idea, but it just doesn’t work in real life. In most places there are two doors and if you open the first one to the lady to go first, she will just end up opening the second one herself. Or even if there is one, after getting in you still have to stand there dumly, waiting for the guy to finally get to you from behind the door. And also, the idea becomes much less romantic when you think about how the tradition started as a way to make sure the assassins murder the woman and not the man.
Candles and rose petals. Two different things, but I’ll croup them up here, because too often they come together. Candles are dangerous if you want to make love! You can’t leave them around if you sleep or go away from the room for even a minute, without it becoming a fire hazard, not to mention that in the throws of passion they are very easy to kick towards the curtains. Rosepetals are not dangerous, but fucking annoying to clean and what do you even do with them? Yeah, sure, they smell nice and look real pretty, but there’s no real use for them and you could use that money so much better (ice cream? chocolate? a movie ticket? a tv?).
Guy carrying the girl’s stuff. Yeah, okay, this can be really useful if you really need a hand and can’t handle all the stuff, so I’m not saying that is bad, though it’s not that romantic either. What I’m talking about is the kind of carrying your stuff, where the girl has like one hand bag or one shopping bag and the guy insists on carrying it. For one, I am not gonna die under the weight of my half kilo purse or one t-shirt in a bag. Secondly, it is just fricking awkward to ask for your bag whenever you actually need something that is in there. Like seriously, it doesn’t help at all if you pull my one small piece of luggage, it just makes me feel really ridiculous. And very much unequal.

He was all mopey and melodramatic and oh-god-my-life-is-over and I-ruined-my-perfect-love-HOW-COULD-I?? but there’s no real reflecting what happened and why it happened. Instead of pitying and hating himself, he should think of the real reasons things happened (miscommunication, feeling alone, jealousy of Kurt’s life, Kurt being busy, whatever) and do something about it _afterwards_ (instead of sending weird gifts). I’m probably going to like him again soon, but in this episode, I mostly just felt like he was making it all about himself again and wallowing in self-pity, without really realising what went wrong. So it made me feel somewhat bad for him, but much more it made me feel even worse for Kurt and a bit annoyed at Blaine. Even after the break-up, things are still about Blaine… Blaine blames himself but in the wrong way. Cheating usually never is the real problem (although never right), but the reason why someone ends up doing it. One truth I have learned in my life is that blaming yourself for everything and pitying yourself is also just one kind of selfishness. Mostly I’m annoyed because I’ve been Blaine, blaming myself for everything that went wrong in relasionships and just drowning in hating myself for being such a horrible person, without realising that the other person is actually hurting as well. Unselfishness would be to realise that he did wrong but he was not the only person who ruined things and he is not solely responsible for all the pain in the world and actually think what I personally did wrong, take responsibility for that and then try to remember it so I won’t do it again. This episode just made me want to say to Blaine that he should take his head out of his butt and realise that life isn’t all about him and what he does, but what people do together. This probably doesn’t even make sense, but I don’t know. Blaine’s sad face is cute and makes me want to hug him, but the way he acted made me not like him very much. Hopefully next episode he will be his loveable self again.
